Awards Nomination

Nominations are invited from government and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), bi-lateral, multi-lateral developmental organizations, private institutions and enterprises for the eWorld 2012 Awards.

Introduction

The eWorld 2012 Awards would recognise excellence in adoption of technology in the processes of governance, and also showcasing noteworthy innovations towards this end. To be presented at the eWorld Forum 2012, the awards are aimed at encouraging continued use of technology for solving the problems of governance, and for making government more responsive, effective and citizen oriented.

The eWorld 2012 Awards would recognise excellence in the following fields*

  • Best ICT-enabled Agriculture Initiative of the Year
  • Best G2C ICT initiative of the Year
  • Best G2B Initiative of the Year
  • Best G2G Initiative of the Year
  • Best ICT-enabled Urban Governance Initiative of the Year
  • Best ICT-enabled Rural Development Initiative of the Year
  • Best Initiative for Electronic Delivery of Services
  • Best Telecentre Initiative of the Year
  • Best Government Portal of the Year
  • Best Initiative for Localised Application/Content
  • Best e-Governance Initiative using New Age Technologies
  • Best use of ICT in Public Safety, Security and Disaster Management
  • Best Use of ICT in a PSU
  • Best e-Governance Channel Partner of the Year

In each category, separate awards would be presented as follows:
eWorld Public Choice Award

  • Nominated projects will be screened and put online for the public to vote. Projects receiving the maximum number of votes under each category will receive the eWorld Public Choice Award.

eWorld Jury Choice Award

  • Nominations will be screened by an eminent panel of jury members, who will then choose the best project from each category. The selected project will receive the eWorld Jury Choice Award

Best ICT-enabled Agriculture Initiative of the Year

The ICT enabled Agriculture Initiative of the Year Award honours excellence in the field of agricultural production, agricultural extension services, crop advisory, agricultural marketing and agro-business with use of ICT.

Best Government to Citizen Initiative of the Year

This Award would recognise the best initiative made for providing better government services to citizens in a better manner through the use of ICT.

Best Government to Business (G2B) Initiative of the Year

The Best G2B Initiative of the Year would recognise the best initiative made for making it easier to do business in India through the use of ICT. This category would include initiatives such as online registration of companies, e-filing of taxes, e-compliance certificates etc

Best Government to Government (G2G) Initiative of the Year

This Award catergory would recognise the best ICT-backed initiative that has made it easier, more efficient and effective for government departments or agencies to interact with one another

Best ICT-enabled Urban Governance Initiative of the Year

The Best Urban Governance Initiative of the Year Award honours those initiatives that have used ICT tools to provide and improve services, transactions and interactions with citizens and businesses in an urban setting. These include use of ICT in Municipal Services, Electronic delivery of citizen and business services by Urban Local Bodies, use of ICT in Urban tolls and taxes, better provisioning of urban facilities such as local transportation, water supply, sewage and waste management, power etc with use of ICT

Best ICT-enabled Rural Development Initiative of the Year

The Best ICT-enabled Rural Development Initiative of the Year Award honours initiatives made in the field of rural development made using ICT. Initiatives made for strengthening the Panchayati Raj system (or similar rural governance bodies) through effective community participation; for better delivery of rural services; better targetting of the rural poor and the marginalised sections etc would be eligible to apply.

Best Initiative for Electronic Delivery of Services (EDS)

The Best Initiative for Electronic Delivery of Services (EDS) Award honours excellence in delivery of services via the Internet and other electronic platforms. It includes e-commerce and m-commerce transaction services for handling online orders, application hosting by application service providers (ASPs) and any processing capability that is obtainable on the Web.

Telecentre Initiative of the Year

The Telecentre Initiative of the Year Award honours those government organisations, non-governmental organisations, bi-lateral, multi-lateral developmental organisations and private enterprises from across the world that demonstrate extraordinary effort, innovation, leadership, and excellence in the use of digital technologies to support community, economic, educational, and social development.

Best Government Portal of the Year

The Best Government Portal of the Year Award would recognise the portal of a government agency, department, board, commission or any-other public-facing entity that most effectively dissemenates information of importance, makes interaction with the concerned body easier and provides avenues for online access to services

Best Initiative for Localised Application/Content

The Best Initiative for Localised Application/Content Award would recognise the best initiative made for developing applications and content in local languages that enables better access to government services for citizens and overcomes hurdles imposed by limitations of language

Best e-Governance Initiative using New Age Technologies

The Best e-Governance Initiative Using New age Technologies would recognise innovations in the provisioning and delivery of governance services through technologies that are as of now not widely entrenched in governace. This would include m-governance services, service using the Cloud, Data Centre-based services etc

Best Initiative for Use of ICT in Public Safety, Security and Disaster Management

The Best Best Initiative for Use of ICT in Public Safety, Security and Disaster Management Award honours those agencies that have deployed ICT for developing plans, processes, strategies and solutions to better manage day-to-day issues of public safety and security and/or to handle emergencies arising out of situations such as natural and/or man made disasters

Best use of ICT for Public Sector Units (PSU)

The Best use of ICT for Public Sector Units (PSU) Award in the category of ICT Enabled PSU of the Year honours the Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) which has extensively used Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with an objective of planning, promoting and organising an integrated development of the government sector in the country.

Best e-Governance Channel Partner of the Year

This category would recognise the best India-based channel partner of a company registered outside India. In order to be eligible, the local partner and international principal must be engaged in government business and the partnership must have been in existence for at least the past two years.

Guidelines
Award Objectives

  • To encourage institutions leaders to use and apply ICT tools in various developmental and sector-specific projects in governance and health
  • To identify and popularise emerging leaders and innovative projects from the different sectors and from different countries of the development community, including the grassroot organisations
  • To identify and felicitate a project that exemplifies the kind of implementation that can be easily replicated and at the same time proves efficient and sustainable for other countries and regions
  • To promote the most innovative initiatives in the domain of ICT4D
  • To spread awareness about the role of ICTs in addressing social concerns
  • To emphasise the instrumental effectiveness of ICT based applications

Selection Criteria

The institutions who wish to nominate themselves or others for the eWorld Awards 2012 need to furnish details about the projects they are involved with. The nominated projects will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Economic cost and sustainability, stakeholder support
  • Gender parity, and other inclusiveness indicators
  • Impact on livelihoods and society in general
  • Demonstrable effects on the project target groups
  • Community initiatives and ownership
  • The measure and potential of replication
  • Extent of collaboration

Selection ProcedureThe selection procedure for award nomination is sequential.

  • The institutions/projects will be verified and reviewed by a team of in-house reviewers. Any additional information, if required, will be asked accordingly
  • For the Jury Choice Awards, nominations will be evaluated according to the criteria mentioned above
  • For Public choice Awards, the nominations will be opened for online voting
Exhibition

The eWorld 2012 Exhibition, an integral part of eWorld Forum 2012, will take place on 15 and 16 June 2012 at Le Meridian, New Delhi, India. The two day Exhibition will attract more than 1000 companies exhibiting and featuring the best in cutting edge developments from around the world.
