“Power of Digitization in Learning”

By: Lim Soon Jinn, Heulab Deputy CEO

Technology has over the years, becoming part and parcel of one’s lifestyle. Various learning devices and the Internet allow us to be seamlessly and always connected to one and other. The age of Digitization provides further options for learning to be out of the traditional box.

Assimilating digitization to education empowers the transformation of the four walls of any classroom into a borderless environment so learning can be enhanced with information being retrieved up-to-date, collaboration being increased, and learning to take place anytime, anywhere.

This presentation will demonstrate how technology – through use of authoring and collaborative solutions – stimulates independent learning to enhance students’ performance around the world.

Knowledge Driven Health

Knowledge Driven Health

eHealth Asia Conference
(Session Coordinated by Microsoft)

Background

Healthcare is experiencing a transformation that challenges us to evolve from a provider-centric to a patient-centric model of healthcare delivery. New technologies are making it both achievable and affordable for healthcare organizations to meet this challenge, helping to make healthcare more efficient, safer and accessible to all.

Access to knowledge and expertise will be vital as clinicians evolve from being expected to know and remember everything to being experts at finding and applying information. This changing role will require them to be always connected in order to share knowledge and decisions and to form ‘just in time’ teams of qualified professionals to deal with specific problems or patients. With easier access to information and expertise, clinicians can spend more time doing what they are trained for – caring for patients.

The greatest asset we have for healthcare transformation is the knowledge and skill of people and the interactions that bind them together. This is where we need to start, with tools that reflect the way practitioners work and communicate, and technologies that support their changing roles and modes of interaction. We see clinicians with the capability to connect with their peers and systems to find the information they need. We see collaboration of colleagues, teams and organizations to be of central importance for more effective healthcare delivery, and we see technology supporting more informed decision-making at every level of the healthcare system.

Knowledge Driven Health is our investment in assisting this transformation.

Workshop participants will be introduced to:

  • The methods of healthcare provider interaction, the pressures and challenges faced by governments, and some of the solutions for these challenges
  • The opportunity that exists for Patient Relationship Management in the Hospital as well as the opportunity for Case Management within Social Services agencies.
  • The opportunity for leveraging the Microsoft technologies to better manage costs, improve quality and enhance insight across any delivery systems
  • A Technology Implementation Showcase from “GLOCO” a dynamic, innovative IT healthcare systems provider with a wide range of quality IT healthcare and medical imaging systems for Hospitals, Paediatric Clinics, GP Clinics and Dental Clinics.

25 mins Business Intelligence and Healthcare Analytics

Werner Van Huffel-Technology Strategist for Health and Social Services-Microsoft Asia Pacific Region

Reporting and Business Intelligence is becoming increasingly important in health as providers and social services agencies are looking to better manage costs, improve quality and enhance insight across their delivery systems. Asia Knowledge Forum on ICT in Education

Asia Knowledge Forum on ICT in Education
(Session Conceptualised by Gesci)

The workshop on “Asia Knowledge Forum” is being convened by Global e Schools and Communities Initiative (GeSCI). GeSCI is a global partnership bringing together the governments of developing and donor countries, business communities, civil society and international organizations that believe the development of all societies is fundamentally based on human development, access to information and knowledge and innovation. GeSCI’s operations and partnerships are based on the idea of Knowledge Sharing – support that helps developing countries cultivate their own knowledge and innovation institutions and structures.

The concept of the Asia Knowledge Forum emerges from GeSCI’s in country experiences in Africa, Latin America and India. Working in partnership with country governments, GeSCI supports the development of effective frameworks including policy and strategy formation on ICT in Education. This provides GeSCI with a unique insight into the specific challenges and solutions in using ICT for Education in developing countries.

The Asia Knowledge Forum is proposed as a multi-country, multi-stakeholder, collaborative, knowledge sharing platform on ICTs in Education providing a neutral platform for member countries to build awareness on the effective usage of ICTs in education. It will bring together ministries of education, opinion leaders, scholars and educators from Asian countries to exchange, collaborate and become engaged in an ongoing dialogue that will ultimately lead to the development of appropriate, innovative and possibly ground-breaking policy solutions to the impediments on ICT and Education that confront policy makers.

It is a Forum designed to assist some of the poorest Asian countries in mobilizing best practices and knowledge around issues of integrating educational technology into learning environments. The Forum will endeavor to establish national and international partnerships to ensure the success of such structures. It will also provide a mechanism for exchange and networking between member countries and to promote cross country collaboration and communication. It would also explore opportunities for synergizing knowledge through the convergence of regional experiences and knowledge sharing from across the globe.

The Asia Knowledge Forum will have its first planning meeting alongside the eASiA2008. The purpose of the meeting is to identify the key partners and the key issues that would form the core of the forum in the future. The activities of the Forum will be based on the needs of the members.
