Housing Department of Government of Maharashtra aims at providing safe, affordable and decent housing for all citizens in urban areas in the state of Maharashtra. Towards this objective, the department implements various social housing schemes through MHADA (Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority), SRA (Slum Rehabilitation Authority), Dharavi Rehabilitation Board and SPPL (Shivshahi Punarvasan Prakalp Ltd.). Housing Department, through Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) is also responsible for promotion and development of Real Estate Sector in the state.
The department is implementing one of the flagship scheme of Government of India namely “Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban”. The scheme is launched in June 2015 with an objective of “Housing for All” by 2022 when the nation completes 75 years of independence. Maharashtra has done considerable progress under this scheme, with more than 7 lakhs houses have been sanctioned so far.
Affordable Housing Summit, which is being organised by Housing Department, Government of Maharashtra along with Elets Technomedia Pvt Ltd, aims at encouraging affordable and sustainable housing with focusing on innovative cost effective housing technologies, greater private sector participation with Public Private Partnership (PPP) and exchange knowledge and ideas to build habitable housing.
