digitalLEARNING Higher Education Knowledge Exchange – Jaipur, Rajasthan, 28 February 2015

About Conference

digitalLEARNING Higher Education Knowledge Exchange – Jaipur, Rajasthan, is a one-day event being convened with the aim of bringing key decision-makers and leaders in the higher education sector of the country on one platform. The officials will meet and discuss the ongoing initiatives, short-term and long-term objectives for strengthening the country’s higher education system and the challenges and scope for the accomplishment of these goals.

We are digitalLEARNING, a premier monthly publication from Elets Technomedia Pvt Ltd, focused on current practices in ICT and education in India. Through the years, our organization has focused on creating an ecosystem that spreads across the education, governance, health and infrastructure sectors.

Through our events and print publications, we have managed to productively engage major stakeholders in the communities that we cater to. Our flagship event Higher Education Knowledge Exchange is one of our major forums where top policy makers, corporate and other stakeholders in attendance. Discussions at our events have ranged from issues related to policy framework, regulation, management and operation.

Discussions around the quality of higher education in India have often bordered around the need for better institutions. Foreign universities can play a vital role in building a better ecosystem that works towards enhancing the quality quotient in Indian education. India is on the cusp of launching itself on the global platform and the past decade has seen an increased interest from foreign institutions to set shop in India. What makes the future outlook positive is the interest that Indian students have shown towards foreign institutions as well.

India today boasts of being one of the biggest markets acoss sectors and education has not been alien to it. Though several new institutions have emerged in the past few years, there has also been a need felt for improving the protection available to students against malpractices. In terms of regulation, this is how the situation stands today. At present, there is no legal and regulatory framework to allow foreign universities to set up campus in India, despite efforts by the previous government. Faced with delays in enacting a law allowing foreign universities to set up base in the country, the human resource development ministry decided in September 2013 to take the executive order route to open the doors for the top 400 institutions to set up campuses in the country and award degrees, giving Indian students the opportunity to study in global institutions without leaving home or spending a fortune in dollars. A legal framework making this possible has been pending for more than a decade now. On the other hand, the need for educational institutions that can provide good research infrastructure is more than ever.

India has also become an attraction for foreign students from across the globe. High economic growth in the past decade coupled with the demographic dividend has set up India as the next economic superpower. Students worldwide are today keen on understanding the Indian corporate culture and enjoin themselves with India’s growth story. The government too is intent on making a suitable legal framework for this exchange of knowledge. We, at digitalLEARNING, can be the bridge.

We take this opportunity to invite your participation at higher education knowledge exchange which is scheduled to be held on February 21st in Jaipur. The presence of top policy makers, vice chancellors of technical universities and chairmen/director/principal of renowned engineering colleges will give you an ideal opportunity for collaborations and understanding the way ahead for fostering the right environment for knowledge exchange. Young population (15-32 years) in India consists of 35 per cent of the urban population and 32 per cent of the rural population. This means that 430 million young people fall in this age group. Current predictions suggest a steady increase in the youth population to 464 million by 2021. These are the findings of ‘State of the Urban Youth, India 2012: Employment, Livelihoods, Skills,’ a report published by IRIS Knowledge Foundation in collaboration with UN-HABITAT. To be able to emerge as a strong contender for its counterparts, India needs to have a strong strategy and vision of training this population. With a planned approach, keeping global changes, challenges and implications in view, India can form one of the strongest and most skilled army that can create a benchmark for the nation worldwide in every field.
