Home eGovernance easia 2006

Asia is home to three of the world’s four largest economies. Housing 60% of the world’s population engaged in a myriad of professions and livelihoods, it is on the brink of unprecedented growth and prosperity. Asian countries are witnessing a dramatic change in their economy. Th e scene of e-Governance and e-Learning is not diff erent either. Diff erent countries are at diff erent stages of implementation and some are progressing faster than others. We have been focusing on many such issues in our publications – i4d,, egov and Digital Learning Digital Learning.. Th ere is immense There is immense scope to learn from each other and to fi nd solutions to common challenges. With its economic and sociocultural diversity, Asia requires new, innovative thinking, and a knowledgesharing platform in the fi elds of Information and Communication Technologies for Development. Egov Asia 2006 and Digital Learning 2006 conference aims to provide a common platform for policy makers and implementers of the Asia-Pacifi c nations to share their views and deliberate on their experiences through peer interactions and in the process bring expertise to a wider audience on the issues of e-Government and e-Learning respectively. Looking at the increasing importance of telecentres for bringing social and economic development in rural communities in developing countries, we also bring another platform, Asian Telecentre Forum 2006, for reviewing several models of telecentres that exist in Asia and discuss their scope and scalability. Our objectives to organize all these conferences simultaneously at the same venue is to:

  • Showcase a gamut of inter-related  issues that require cohesive  planning and integration.
  • Provide the participants  an opportunity to meet  experts from the sectors of  e-Government, e-Learning  and ICT for Development.
  • Taking stock of a variety of  practices in these fi elds and help  building a knowledge-rich society.
  •  Provide a vast meet of  policymakers, practitioners,  think-tanks, industry leaders  and academicians to share  experiences and learn lessons.
